School-based water, sanitation and hygiene interventions

juli 2017

An effective means to promote hygienic behaviour amongst school children.

Despite the many global efforts that have been made to improve access to water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH), countless people still rely on unimproved water-sources, do not use improved sanitation facilities and practice open defecation. School-aged children are likewise affected by inadequate WASH conditions through poor school environments that often facilitate the spread of diseases. This factsheet, that was developed for Aqua4All, explores to what extent school-based WASH approachesĀ in primary schools lead to an improved hygiene behaviour in primary school pupils.
